CivicLex

CivicLex is a nonprofit civic education and media organization dedicated to strengthening the civic health of Lexington. By making local government more accessible and transparent, CivicLex helps residents of all ages understand how policy works, engage with timely issues, and build relationships across diverse communities. Through their work as educators, journalists, conveners, and civic advocates, they’re building a Lexington where more people feel confident participating — and where that participation leads to meaningful, lasting change.

We partnered with CivicLex to expand their impact, starting with our youngest citizens. We funded the development of a new K–12 curriculum aligned with Kentucky’s Academic Standards for Social Studies, giving teachers the tools to introduce students to local government in a way that’s both age-appropriate and inspiring. Students gain firsthand experience in civic leadership by identifying community issues, researching them, and proposing solutions. We also supported CivicLex’s recent growth, helping fund staffing, a new office, and expanded programming capacity to meet growing demand.

At the Murry Foundation, we believe strong communities start with informed, engaged people — and that starts with access to knowledge. From supporting kids to learning how to lead to helping neighbors better understand the systems that shape their lives, CivicLex is proving that civic participation can be both powerful and personal. We're proud to support their mission to make engagement a more accessible, rewarding experience for everyone in Lexington.
