Step By Step has long been a trusted guide for young single mothers navigating the challenges of parenting, poverty, and crisis. Through its C.A.R.E. Case Management model, the organization offers emotional support, resource referrals, and a community of care. With the launch of the Flourish campaign, Step By Step is expanding that support with a critical new layer: providing fast, flexible crisis relief when no other safety net is available.
We’ve been longtime partners of Step By Step, and recently collaborated with them to launch Flourish, a two-year initiative designed to prevent short-term emergencies from becoming long-term setbacks. Supported by our $100,000 matching grant, the program includes a bilingual staff member to oversee crisis care, an expanded Mom’s Pantry stocked with essentials, and emergency financial assistance for housing, utilities, and transportation. Participants are active Step By Step members, selected through a peer-reviewed process, and commit to skill-building and consistent follow-up to build toward long-term stability.
In Kentucky, 70% of young moms in rental housing pay more than they can afford — just one crisis away from losing everything. Flourish creates a vital bridge in those moments, helping moms escape domestic violence, keep their jobs, and maintain safe, stable homes for their children. This isn’t charity — it’s strategic, life-changing support. At the Murry Foundation, we’re proud to stand with Step By Step to help young families not just survive, but truly flourish.
